Honeycomb is pleased to partner with the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast to recruit a Band 3 Administrator for the Emergency Department. This is a temporary position with the possibility of being extended.
Role Details
- Location: Royal Victoria Hospital
- Hourly Rate: £12.75, plus additional pay for evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays
- Working Pattern: Rotational shifts covering a 24/7 service
- Contract Type: Temporary (extension potential)
About the Opportunity

This position offers the chance to support a busy Emergency Department, contributing to the smooth running of services and ensuring patients receive timely and effective support from arrival onwards.
Key Responsibilities
As part of the administrative team, your duties will include:
- Providing a professional and welcoming service to patients, visitors, and relatives
- Registering and assisting patients on arrival, ensuring accurate information is shared.
- Supporting communication between clinical staff and patients
- Keeping patients updated regarding waiting times and care progression.
- Handling telephone enquiries in a courteous and efficient manner
- Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe working environment
- Managing and updating patient records, including real-time document scanning
- Recording ambulance arrivals and relevant patient details
- Assisting with transport arrangements (ambulance services, taxis, or family collection)
- Monitoring stock levels and ordering necessary supplies.
- Liaising with IT support regarding equipment issues
- Sending referrals and correspondence via email systems such as Outlook
- Requesting portering services using internal systems
- Supporting reception areas and providing cover when required
- Ensuring confidentiality and data protection standards are always upheld.
- Managing disposal of confidential waste appropriately
Essential Criteria
Qualifications / Experience:
Applicants must meet one of the following:
- 4 GCSEs (A-C / 9-4), including English Language (or equivalent), plus at least 1 year of administrative experience
OR - A minimum of 2 years' experience in a clerical or administrative role
Skills & Competencies:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Confident communication skills with a range of individuals
- Ability to remain composed and efficient in high-pressure situations.
