Honeycomb is delighted to be partnering exclusively with a highly credible UK regional charity in order to secure a suitably experienced 'External Public Affairs Lead - NI' on a 1 year fixed term contract. Hybrid package - hybrid (office attendance required throughout NI / with travel to UK).

The Client - This Regional UK Charity carries a mission whereby to 'end the harm, abuse and exploitation of older people'. With over 30 years' experience throughout the provision of services, this credible charity advocates by performing their duty to the legacy of its' service users and works to educate the wider public by promoting the prevention of harm via a fully manned helpline alongside wider support services.

With an immediate requirement for a passionate and professional individual to lead throughout the advocacy in a variety of settings (where statutory officials are present etc); this contract is out for reviewal of further extension passed it's initial 1 year post as it's deemed to be critical to the function of the charity mission.

The Role - Reporting to the Deputy CEO, duties will consist of but not be limited to the following:

Development and delivery of the charity's external affairs policy and campaign strategies by working to engage and inform partners, influencers and parliamentarians across Northern Ireland and Scotland. The role will be responsible for all top-level statutory, third sector and political liaison at an operational level and understand all the needs of each nation - as well as the governments agendas.

Main duties: Fulfil a range of deliverables of which include -

  • Political and parliamentary liaison
  • Policy Activity
  • External Affairs and Partnerships
  • Media Activity
  • Report to the Trustee Board
  • Liaise with Income Generation Team (Fundraising)
  • The Person - The post-holder will be required to meet the following criterion prior to reaching the next stage of the campaign:

    • Degree level education or equivalent experience preferably in a relevant field
    • Experience of working with Westminster Parliament, a devolved assembly or a political party or equivalent.
    • Good understanding of legislative requirements applying to adult protection and domestic abuse
    • Ability to manage a complex and varied workload, and manage confidential issues.
    • Proven ability to develop effective relationships with senior staff in statutory agencies, voluntary agencies, regulatory bodies
    • Experience of working in partnership with other organisations and agencies
    • Excellent communication skills both written and oral
    • Experience of dissemination research findings

    DESIRABLE:

    • Experience of working 1-1 with parliamentarians, politicians and political advisers.
    • Experience of delivering reports to Board Directors/Trustees.
    • Experience of issuing press releases.
    • An ability to demonstrate a positive attitude to older people and a demonstrable interest in challenging the abuse of older people, coupled with an ability to deal appropriately with sensitive issues.
