Honeycomb is delighted to partner with an established brokerage to recruit for a Junior Underwriter. This role would suit someone who is at the early stage of their underwriting career or a commercial broker who is ready to move into underwriting. This is a strong opportunity for a candidate with a solid background in commercial insurance and the ambition to grow within a supportive, development focused environment. The ideal candidate is someone with strong insurance fundamentals, a genuine appetite to learn and the drive to build a long term underwriting career.

The Client
Our client is an established independent insurance brokerage based in the Republic of Ireland with a heritage dating back to the late 1950s. The firm provides both personal and commercial cover through a multi insurer approach, positioning itself as a customer advocate on quotations, renewals and claims support.

The Role

Typical duties will include:

  • Negotiate and secure both new business and renewals, achieving terms that align with underwriting appetite and commercial goals
  • Develop and maintain strong broker relationships, ensuring clear communication and a high standard of service to intermediary partners
  • Review submissions, collate key information and analyse data to support informed risk decisions
  • Liaise with capacity providers to discuss risks, confirm underwriting positions and agree acceptable terms
  • Maintain strong product knowledge, confidently explaining policy covers, conditions and key exclusions as required
  • Work closely with the underwriting team to deliver a professional, efficient and responsive service throughout the process

Desirable Criteria

  • Have a proven track record in commercial broking or a junior underwriting role
  • Possess demonstrable drive, self motivation and determination to achieve results
  • Be an energetic, motivated and disciplined individual with a positive attitude
  • Have a CIP qualification or be working towards this goal
  • Have excellent communication, negotiation and IT skills
  • Have good verbal and written English
  • Have the ability to positively embrace change
  • Possess a calm and considered demeanour, particularly if under pressure
  • Continuously seek opportunities for process improvement and innovation
