Honeycomb Jobs is delighted to be working with a Public Sector client, to recruit for a temporary Tourism Operations Manager in the Armagh catchment area.

The Client - The Public Sector organisation is situated in the Armagh catchment area.

The Role - The postholder will be responsible for the management of the local historical site, its grounds and services, including all operational issues including staff, financial and administrative management, health and safety, security, maintenance and cleansing, programme and event development and delivery and catering and retail operations. Duties will include but will not be limited to:

  • Day to day management of the historical centre and grounds and ancillary Tourism Facilities as required, to include:
    • Management and application of administrative and financial functions ensuring adherence to all the organisations policies and procedures;
    • Operational management of sites including adherence to health and safety requirements and procedures, risk assessments, security arrangements, maintenance of sites, cleansing of sites, contract management, record keeping and reporting as required;
    • Ensure excellence in Customer Care in conjunction with Customer Service, Finance and Retail Manager;
    • Management and delivery of high-quality provision for bookings of the facility, its services and programmes;
    • Management of catering and retail services.
  • Key holder and Duty Officer and on call responsibility for site.
  • Recruit, lead and develop the staff team at the Centre and ancillary venues contributing towellbeing and high levels of employee engagement:
    • Implement and review appropriate training and development programmes for employees to ensure sufficient skills, capacity and knowledge within the service;
    • Operate within the organisations policies and procedures;
    • Deliver services in the most efficient and equitable manner and in accordance with the organisations governance and financial regulations;
    • Efficiently and effectively manage available resources;
    • Deliver their agreed performance targets;
    • Work in a corporate and collaborative way with other services and departments.
  • Manage the staff team at the Centre and ancillary venues including the preparation or approval of staff rotas, holiday cover, event staffing, casual requirements, leave management and salary sheets as required.
  • Develop and manage experiences, offers, tours and programmes with the Living History, Visitor Services and Education & Engagement Teams, including oversight of script development.
  • Input into the Strategic Development Plan for the Centre and wider Departmental Plans as required, in conjunction with partners, including inputting to the development of Business Cases and external funding for capital and revenue programmes for the Centre and across the portfolio.
  • Provide information required for business cases, risk registers, annual budget setting process, Freedom of Information, audits and other corporate processes as and when required.
  • Collate information required for reports, including Committee Reports.

The Person

As the successful candidate you will have the following background and experience:

Essential:

  • 3rd level qualification (i.e., HNC/HND, Level 4, Degree) in line with the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) in a relevant discipline/subject such as Business, Tourism, Humanities subject (Please note relevancy should be clearly demonstrated).
  • 2 years' experience in:
    • Line management of staff
    • Budget setting and management including meeting challenging income targets
    • Managing a Tourism, Culture or Heritage Facility delivering multiple services.
    • Event management
    • Working in a busy customer facing environment

*Applicants who do not possess a relevant third level qualification must demonstrate 5 years' relevant experience as above.
