We are looking for a Band 3 Debt Officer to join our team at Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong administrative skills, attention to detail and excellent communication abilities who wants to develop their experience within a professional healthcare environment.

As a Debt Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting the recovery and management of Trust income, helping to ensure that debt is managed effectively, accurately and in line with Trust policies and procedures.

What will you be doing?

Working alongside the Debt Manager and other senior colleagues, you will:

  • Assist with the recovery of Trust income, including liaising and negotiating with clients, relatives, representatives, solicitors, and other relevant parties.
  • Regularly review overdue debt reports and the Accounts Receivable ledger, identifying appropriate actions to support timely debt recovery.
  • Use Microsoft Excel spreadsheets to monitor the age of debt and maintain accurate records of account activity.
  • Manage an allocated portfolio of debtor accounts, regularly reviewing outstanding balances and taking the appropriate next steps in accordance with debt management procedures.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues in Financial Assessments, shared services, and other departments, as well as relevant third-party stakeholders.
  • Respond to ad hoc queries professionally and efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality and data security.
  • Ensure correspondence and queries are dealt with promptly, accurately and in accordance with Finance Department policies and procedures.
  • Support the Debt Manager in ensuring that financial systems, processes, and procedures are followed to provide an effective, transparent, and accountable debt management service.
  • Support compliance with relevant statutory requirements and departmental guidance.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of relevant financial systems, including ABACUS and E-Financials Accounts Receivable, as well as the structure and functions of the Trust.

What are we looking for?

To be successful in this role, you will need:

Essential Criteria

Option 1:
4 GCSEs at Grades A-C, including English Language and Mathematics, or an equivalent/higher qualification, and at least 1 years' experience in a clerical/administrative role.

OR

Option 2:
At least 2 years' experience in a clerical/administrative role.

You will also require:

  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, service users, and external stakeholders.
  • A professional approach to handling sensitive and confidential financial information.
