Honeycomb is delighted to be partnering with a leading law firm in Belfast to appoint a Compliance Assistant to their established and expanding Risk & Compliance function.The Opportunity
This is a fantastic opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional looking to build a long-term career within Risk & Compliance. Working alongside the Head of Risk & Compliance, you will gain broad exposure to client onboarding, AML, financial crime, regulatory compliance, file management and quality assurance within a highly regulated professional services environment.
The role would suit a range of backgrounds, including recent graduates looking to begin a career within compliance, risk or regulation, as well as paralegals seeking an alternative career path outside of traditional legal roles. It could also be an excellent move for Legal Administrators, Financial Services or Banking Administrators, or Professional Services Administrators who are looking to transition into a dedicated compliance function.
The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring the firm's compliance processes are applied consistently and effectively. You will help maintain accurate records, support internal compliance procedures, identify and escalate potential risks and provide a professional and responsive service to fee earners and colleagues across the business.

Key Responsibilities
-
Assist with new client onboarding and reactivation processes, ensuring all AML requirements are met
-
Prepare engagement letters and other onboarding documentation in line with approved procedures
-
Provide support to fee earners and clients regarding KYC, CDD and onboarding requirements
-
Monitor outstanding onboarding information and follow up to ensure matters progress efficiently
-
Complete client due diligence, including sanctions screening, PEP checks and adverse media searches
-
Assist with financial crime, AML and wider risk assessment activity
-
Support periodic KYC and CDD reviews and ongoing monitoring requirements
-
Assist with source of funds and source of wealth checks
-
Identify potential AML, compliance, onboarding or file management concerns and escalate appropriately
-
Assist with compliance investigations, remediation work and responses to audit findings
-
Support the administration of file opening, closure, archiving, retention and retrieval processes
-
Undertake file audits, control testing and quality assurance reviews

Assist in maintaining compliance with Lexcel, ISO and other relevant quality standards

Deal with day-to-day AML, onboarding and compliance queries, escalating more complex matters when required

Support compliance training and awareness initiatives across the firm

Contribute to improving compliance systems, processes and workflows

Assist with reporting, management information and continuous improvement projects

Maintain accurate compliance registers, records and management information
-
Provide support during internal and external audits, compliance monitoring exercises and improvement programmes
The PersonEssential Criteria
-
Degree in Law, Business Studies or another relevant discipline
-
Excellent organisational skills with a strong eye for detail

Clear and confident written and verbal communication skills

Strong IT capability, including good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
-
Self-motivated and able to prioritise and manage tasks independently
-
Genuine interest in developing a career within Risk, Compliance or a related regulatory function
Desirable Criteria
-
An understanding of AML, financial crime, risk management or regulatory compliance
-
Experience gained within a legal, financial services or professional services setting, including internships, placements or part-time employment
-
Awareness of compliance procedures within a regulated organisation
