Honeycomb is delighted to be assisting a prominent legal body to secure a Policy and Research Officer. This is a full time, permanent role based in their well-appointed offices in Belfast City Centre.

Your Role:

As the Policy and Communications Officer, you will assist in the development, communication, and implementation of policies in a legal context while effectively engaging with internal and external stakeholders. This role bridges the gap between legal expertise and clear communication to ensure the organisation's initiatives are well-understood and effectively promoted. The key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the development and implementation of a stakeholder mapping and engagement strategy aimed at developing the Bar's relationship with key decision-makers.
  • Delivering high quality political monitoring, advising key internal stakeholders on political events, and pro-active identification of issues/debates/events of relevance to the profession.
  • Maintaining a clearly structured and current ongoing body of research and information gathering on legal and policy issues relevant to the Bar of Northern Ireland.
  • Preparing initial drafts of and research around policy consultation responses in a manner that enables timely review and input from others.
  • Building and maintaining effective working relationships with external stakeholders and collaborating with internal colleagues to maximise the development of effective and positive messages relating to the Bar's policy work.
  • Assisting with the organisation of corporate events and conferences as required to promote the work of the Bar. This includes coordination and management of the delivery of the Policy and Communications Team's functions and events, liaising as appropriate with other departments.
  • Supporting the Communications and PR Officer with producing content for the Bar's weekly and monthly internal and external e-newsletters and publications as required.

About You:

This role involves a combination of policy analysis, development, and communication skills. To be considered for this role you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in law or a related field (e.g., Political Science, Communications, Public Policy).
  • Previous experience in policy analysis, advocacy, or communications is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A clear understanding of legal terminology would be an asset.
  • Analytical and research skills.
  • Proficiency in using communication and data analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and legal processes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the organisation's mission and values.
