Honeycomb Jobs is delighted to be working with our public sector client, to recruit multiple part time (2x 14.8hrs per week posts and 1x 18.5hrs per week post) Visitor Guides at AO level on a temporary basis in Belfast.

The Client - Our public sector client is a leading cultural institution who is responsible for ensuring that its significant collection is developed, cared for and accessible to the widest possible audience.

The Role - To enhance the visitors experience at exhibits and galleries. Duties will include but will not be limited to:

  • To act as a visitor guide to the organisation's exhibits and galleries, actively engaging visitors and creating a positive impression of the institution.
  • Meet and greet visitors in a friendly and polite manner and provide high standards of customer care in line with their service standard commitments.
  • Provide accurate and up to date information to all visitors on wayfinding, exhibits, gallery displays and on the collections.
  • Assist with the start-up and close down of exhibitions.
  • Deal with visitor comments and complaints in person, to try to resolve the issue and to record the comments using the Visitor Comment forms.
  • Always maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of the exhibits and their immediate surroundings and to undertake general housekeeping tasks.
  • Ensuring the safety of visitors and of other employees by strict adherence to all relevant policies and procedures, including providing a rapid response to Emergency Evacuation procedures, the Health and Safety Policy and the Safeguarding Children and Adults at Risk policy.
  • The safety and security of objects and exhibits, reporting lost stolen or damaged items to the appropriate authority, in accordance with the organisation's procedures.
  • To wear uniform in accordance with the organisation's uniform policy.
  • Carrying out other duties as required consistent with the grade and responsibilities of the post.

The Person

As the successful candidate you will have the following background and experience:


  • A minimum of 2 GCSEs at Grade C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent) AND 1 years' experience of working in a customer service role in a fast-paced, public facing environment OR 2 years' experience a customer service role in a fast-paced, public facing environment.
  • Demonstrable enthusiasm and passion for delivering exceptional customer service to a wide-range of people of all ages and abilities.
  • Experience of assimilating information and communicating it effectively in a readily understandable way to the general public.
  • Experience of effectively utilising a range of IT tools and computer programmes such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams.
  • Experience of working within a team and as an individual within a team, demonstrating a high level of self-motivation and initiative.
  • Availability to work flexible hours within a rota system including weekends, evenings and bank & public holidays.


  • Experience of developing and delivering activities, talks or tours to the public.
  • Experience of working within a comparable visitor facing environment with high customer numbers.
  • Have qualifications, skills or experience of particular use to a Visitor Guide role e.g. foreign language(s), sign language, tour guiding, storytelling.
